Frame
Relay/Transparent Network
Pesco provides at the
customer’s location, a point of access to its network. Pesco’s standard
interface at this point of access is a fractional E1 – G.703/G.704 capable
of providing N*64 Kbit/s speeds. The customer may choose to start at 64
Kbit/s and increase bandwidth, in increments of 64 Kbit/s, up to 2 Mbit/s
thereafter, according to his needs. The increase is done software wise and
doesn’t need any change in hardware.
In addition, the point of access can be equipped (free of charge) with a
Data Service Unit (DSU) to provide a serial DCE interface (V.35, RS530,
RS449 or X.21) and, in case of Internet access, an optional TCP/IP
Ethernet router.
Frame Relay Access:
Pesco has installed for its network,
Multi-protocol Frame Relay switches that can offer both PVC’s and SVC’s
(Permanent and Switches Virtual Circuit.) Frame Relay, being a standard
WAN protocol, can carry all required LAN/WAN protocols.
Transparent Access:
Pesco has added to its wireless network, a
cross-connect facility that allows for the delivery of Multiple
Transparent connections over a single FE1 interface.
Radio Security:
The technology employed is FDD/TDM/TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access),
and is implemented with all its inherent security features. This state of
the art technology requires a sophisticated hand-shaking procedure
between the different terminal equipment. This feature by itself provides
a complex stream of data that cannot be normally hacked. In addition, the
equipment unique ID verification parameters, polled periodically,
guarantees and seals the system security.
Radio Link Performance:
The weak point of any wireless communication is its performance in various
atmospheric situations. Pesco’s wireless network was designed to provide a
99.98 % availability in all weather conditions so as to ensure continuous
uninterrupted operations. Prior to any installations, Pesco performs a
site survey to ensure that this reliability criteria can be met.
Thanks to a very conservative and robust design, and by exceeding the
usual requirements of the industry standards, Pesco’s network is strongly
immune to environmental and interference problems.
Net Direct: The Ethernet / IP based Solution
Pesco telecom has
recently launched a new wireless service, NetDirect, which aims at
providing small and medium size enterprises (SME) with a performing
Internet or Intranet connection, at an affordable cost. NetDirect was
created after much research and thorough testing, and is considered to be
an excellent solution for the SME customers.
Today, Pesco Telecom has all major ISP’s in Lebanon inter-connected to
its network (Cyberia, IDM, Sodetel and
Terranet) and accordingly can provide the Internet connection through
either one of the ISP’s.
The major features of the product are the following:
All-In-One product. No limitations:
NetDirect is a performing radio unit that has a built in router. It
connects the SME’s Hub/Switch directly to the Net.
Bandwidth:
NetDirect can accommodate any combination of asymmetrical bandwidths in
the range 32 Kbit/s till X Mbit/s.
Bandwidth limitation is performed on the radio side, and is managed
remotely from Pesco’s operations center. Accordingly bandwidth upgrades
and downgrades can be performed remotely, in a timely manner.
Additional Features:
NetDirect can provide the SME with the following optional services:
DHCP server: permits an
easier management of the PC’s IP settings.
NAT: Permits all the LAN PC’s to share a limited amount
of Internet IP addresses, and optimize the usage of the valuable resource.
In addition, this feature significantly enhances the Lan’s security.
Bandwidth monitoring: NetDirect clients can monitor their
bandwidth usage, by accessing Pesco Telecom’s MRTG server (updated every 5
minutes).
Secondary IP address: NetDirect’s Ethernet port can be
configured with several IP addresses and subnet masks. Among other
benefits, this would facilitate the installation of an Internet Download
by Satellite, for the SME usage.
IP filtering: NetDirect allows the filtering/restriction
of IP packets based on IP address and IP port usage. In practical terms,
this feature allows Pesco to block part of the Internet traffic, in an
effort to enhance the Lan’s security, in case a firewall is not installed
between the NetDirect and the SME’s LAN.
SME’s requirements:
The SME is only required to provide an electrical outlet, with ground and
UPS power for
the connection of the NetDirect’s Power supply.
Proper grounding is required, for the proper operation of any telecom
equipment, including NetDirect, as well as for the proper operation of the
surge protectors included in Pesco’s installation.
